THE REAL THING

by Tom Stoppard

Date: Tues 21st April 2026

Time: 7:30pm start

(please arrive from 7:15pm)

Bath Drama's next play reading is 'The Real Thing' by Tom Stoppard.

Henry is a playwright married to Charlotte. Charlotte is co-starring with Max in Henry's latest play that's about adultery. Max is married to Annie, an actress who's also campaigning for Brodie, an imprisoned soldier. Annie and Henry are madly in love, but is it the real thing?

One of Tom Stoppard's most popular and enduring plays – and his most autobiographical – 'The Real Thing' explores love, fidelity, commitment and honesty, using a play within a play and heaps of Stoppard wordplay to illuminate its themes.
